Hi, I'm a native Italian teacher living in Salerno, a little city in the south of Italy near the Amalfi Coast.
I have been studying English and Spanish, so I know from experience that learning a language takes time and dedication. My aim is to make this process as pleasant and fun as possible.
I deal with many students around the world by giving language lessons, both in person, in Italian language schools, and online.
My passion for languages and my studies brought me to understand that languages are not just simple codes ruled by grammar norms, but that they are actually used to express ourselves as individuals with different backgrounds and cultures.
Lessons will focus primarily on the conversational aspect of the language by using textbooks and materials (e.g. PDFs, audiofiles, Googledocs) that I use in language schools in Italy.
Since I have the DITALS certification, I can help you pass CELI, PLIDA and CILS exams.
Flexibility will be guaranteed according to the student. All students will be asked to take a placement test that they will have to submit at least 3 days before the first lesson. We will be discussing the results during the fist lesson and then decide how to work together.
Since I also work in language schools, I strongly recommend booking in advance so I can arrange my agenda.
I’m ready, and you?

Marcello is a teacher for teachers (I'm a teacher and an American with dual Italian citizenship). In order to learn from anyone, you must develop trust that your teacher cares about your learning and trust their competency. Unlike popular belief, simply being a native speaker of a language does not entail an effective language teacher. As a holder of multiple degrees myself, I sought a highly educated private teacher who was both flexible in approach and had the technical knowledge of the Italian language. Only the highest qualified teachers can adapt to students' needs and demonstrate flexibility. Less experienced teachers will not be able to adjust their teaching approach to student's learning and will insist on sticking to rigid lesson structure or, on the contrary, not have any structure whatsoever. As a college professor and English language teacher myself, I designed an optimal instructional approach that I believed would meet my Italian language learning needs and asked Marcello if he'd be willing to follow it. He asked me to review his approach before agreeing to my request, which I thought was reasonable and also demonstrated his methodology. In the end, I asked him to follow my design and he was gracious to accommodate me. While a teacher's competency is essential, a language student (especially a monolingual like me) must experience a sense of synergy during the lesson to generate an authentic motivation to learn and continue learning. Now that I've had 3 lessons with Marcello, I can write this review with confidence and report that I intend to continue Italian language lessons with him until I achieve my desired language proficiency.
