My name is Oana Maria and I am a professional language teacher and a Linguist graduated at the University of Bordeaux , France. I am currently living in North Norway. I came here to take a second master on Sami language and culture, and recently I have been working in an alternative school with kids. 

I am an eternal language learner and a nomad at heart. I love getting to know new places, living in different countries and cultures and never stop learning. I consider learning a language as buying a new pair of shoes that will lead you to a new culture, experience and life style. And definitely, open up your horizons.

Bonjour! Whether you are a relatively new French speaker, someone looking to polish their skills or simply want to opportunity to speak French, I’m excited to meet you. 

What do I offer? I offer French conversations and classes to improve speaking skills, pronunciation and vocabulary so that students become comfortable with the language and have fluid conversations with real people. You won’t have to say ‘comme ci comme ça’ ever again!

I aim to improve your comprehension and practice of the language, as I believe this is the best way to learn. To steer our conversations, I will consider your goals and craft lesson content to meet your needs, levels and objectives; these are aspects we will define together during our trial lesson. Although I do not set homework (unless you would like some of course!), I love to keep in contact with my students via email and often share tailored French content such as videos, podcasts and songs. 

My teaching style? My teaching style tends to be informal yet informative, as I want my students to have fun while learning more about French life and how natives speak French in their daily lives. If you would prefer a more formal approach, I’m happy to adapt our sessions to meet your needs. I use the silent method for correcting mistakes, allowing you to speak without worry. At the end of the discussion, I will inform you of the mistakes and how to correct them. 

A little about me. I’m a native French speaker from Northern France; however, my friends describe me as a ‘woman with a suitcase’ because I’m always on the move! I have always had a love for language and culture, and I am passionate about sharing my knowledge of the French language with my students. I have a master’s degree in law and currently writing a publication entitled ‘Les pères dans l'ombre du droit’, which is set to be published later this year.

I really take pleasure in doing it. I have lived in Canada for over 10 years and as a self-taught language learner, I easily understand the challenges you have to go through to learn a foreign language. 


I focus my lessons on speaking and all my lessons are tailored to your level and needs.

For beginners, I use small dialogues to learn the basics of conversation and through them I explain the vocabulary, grammar and conjugation.

If you need to practice your pronunciation and learn vocabulary I would propose a read-aloud lesson. I will choose a text according to your level or you can bring your own material.

For intermediate and advanced level, I can offer a French conversation lesson. During the conversation you will learn every-day expressions, enhance your fluidity and improve your listening and understanding level.

A few years ago, when I was in bed at night and almost ready to sleep, I used to ask myself this question : "Why would people want to learn French? Are they crazy?"

Well... Are you? 

It definitely takes guts for someone to take the obscure path of French learning, especially when you know that almost no francophone can speak French perfectly. And it is this courageous desire detected in French learners that made me want to start teaching this language three years ago. In fact, besides the syntactic complexity of this language (which, by the way, is most likely to be a cliché), French is a very poetic language, as it allows countless accesses to figurative speeches (so if you tend to be a little sarcastic at times, this might be perfect for you). Plus, French is cool and sounds fancy too, so... 😗

Through the years, teaching French became a real passion for me, and I think that I enjoy the progress of my students as much as they do ! 

Depending on your level, your needs and your expectations, I will build the lessons including more or less grammar and as soon as you feel ready for it, we will focus on conversation practice. Conversation is a good way to improve fast both your speaking and understanding skills while keeping the classes interactive and fun !

Writing being a very important part of the learning process, we can practice that too. It's a very efficient way to see your weaknesses in grammar and vocabulary and to correct them.

Languages are a passion of mine, I am currently working on language 5 and 6. Because I've been learning other languages  I am very familiar with the difficulties my students can have and which methods are efficient. 

My first objective is for my student to develop the skills to speak and understand French so that they can be independant consulting French content at home. My classes are very relaxed and I try to have a good time while I teach. My classes are tailored to each student's level. 

• For beginners: we work on the elements of the sentence, conjugating verbs, prononciation exercises, we read basic text and we start writing and speaking in French. we also introduce the idea of daily practice.
• For intermediates we work on more advanced grammatical concepts and conjugating with more tenses, we work with audio and written format (about 50/50 technique and practice)
• For advanced students we usually do more conversation based exercises, prior to the class I'll send a podcast, documentary, youtube video, movie extracts and more and the student have to express their thoughts, their critic or commentary on the topic, on my hand I will ask questions to keep the conversation going. We can also do interview prep, review of essays written in French etc.

 I also do give a little bit of homework.

But also ... before starting to teach French full-time and because of a double technical and commercial training, I worked for a long time in marketing and international trade for companies in various sectors of activities: electrical construction, car accessories, shoes… I also created my own business to distribute my creations of costume jewelry.

I’m originally from the East of France, a small town near the Swiss border, and I've been around a lot! I have lived in different regions of France: from North to South, from East to West, from Paris to Nice, from Lyon to Albi. After living in Valparaiso, Chile, I returned to Europe and then settled in Spain for almost 15 years. Today, I live in Alicante with my family.

I am an enthusiastic French teacher (I also speak fluently and teach English, Russian, Spanish and German). So, your mother tongue can be any of these languages  as I   speak and teach in all of these languages. Learning grammar is only one part of learning a language, the other part is to practice, practice, practice, and of course having as much fun as possible while doing so! I work with a book to give your learning a structure. However, I also choose interesting videos, audio files and conversation topics so that you get immersed into the language as much as possible. 

My focus lies on the right pronunciation, to motivate you and to show you that learning a language can be lots of fun. I have lived and worked two years in the South of France and have a German diploma in translation and interpretation for French and English. I speak 7 languages and 5 of them fluently. I want to show you that it is possible to learn a new language fast and with fun. I usually need 3-4 weeks in order to speak a new language fluently. How I do it? Through as much immersion into the language as possible: reading books, comics, watching cartoons, films, YouTube videos, listening to songs, and speaking to natives in real life and online.
