Willkommen auf meinem Profil. Mein Name ist Maike und ich bin 28 Jahre alt. / Welcome to my profile. My name is Maike, I'm 28 years old. Currently, I live and work in Munich, one of the biggest cities in southern Germany. I grew up in a little village in Baden-Württemberg (south of Germany), did my Bachelor degree in Passau (Bayern), lived in France for a while (Paris and Strasbourg) and in Spain (Valencia) as well, then did my masters degree in Oldenburg (northern Germany). Languages are my passion, as well as travelling, good food and lovely conversations. 

As my main job is working in HR, tutoring and teaching German is a side hustle. Initially, I wanted to stop teaching German when I started my first ”real” job.. As it turns out, I really love teaching though and I couldn’t stop doing it, although I have a limited amount of time when I can do it. 
But I’ve been teaching for such a long time now, and I’ve enjoyed the experience so much that I cannot imagine my life without it. By now, I have made friends all over the world whilst teaching, and I enjoy the experience so much that I wouldn’t want to miss it for the world.

In my eyes, it is a great honour to be able to teach people about my language and my culture, as German and Germany have so much to offer. It’s an enriching experience to get into an exchange with people from other places and learn about their costumes and their culture too.

My name is Christine. I’m half German, half Belgian, and I have lived in Mexico for 19 years. I have been a teacher for 16 years and I have taught different subjects and languages, such as English, German, Spanish, world history, and geography.  My teaching approach depends on the student's level and interests. That being said, I believe that conversation is an important part of learning a language, and so I often focus on conversation or question-answer sessions in my classes. I only use authentic materials (books from Klett, Hueber, Cornelsen; blogs, music, videos by Germans), lots of interactive exercises, games. Lessons are based on the student's preferences, so I select the material individually, depending on the student's wishes and hobbies. I organize the lessons so that 80% of the lessons are spoken by the student. We have conversations, discuss current problems in the life of Germans and other peoples. I started working as a German tutor while I was still travelling a lot between Germany, Spain, Italy, Greece and the UK. my name is Florentin, I've been teaching German for the last 8 years, working both with groups at university and 1-on-1.

Maybe the most important aspect for me is the atmosphere in which you can be at ease and speak freely without any fear of making mistakes. Mistakes are not only a natural part of the process, but have to be made and will help your understanding. Our class is a safe space where you can express yourself exactly as you do now and ask all the questions you may have.

In a session we might do conversational exercise, go over your texts together, listen to music to improve listening comprehension, rehearse an exam, take a clarifying look into any specific topic you feel slightly or heavily confused about, read a book or text of your choice together or do grammar exercises, advance your German from the ground up, play some games to get familiar with this language. 

All these activities, that can be fun, can also help us see what is needed for you to advance - in your own way and in your own time.

More about me:
I initially started teaching German after a one-year journey through South America which I undertook after graduating from university. During these travels I learned Spanish and subsequently got the task of offering tuition to students at university who were struggling with reading academic texts in German. Thereafter I started teaching all German levels to different groups at university and also to students individually and have been doing so for over 9 years now, in-person and online. I've also been leading translation groups and lecturing on other language topics like language philosophy. 
Living and teaching German in other countries for several years gave me deeper insight both into learning languages and into my own mother tongue and during that time I naturally adopted the role of a bridge between cultures and languages. 

I speak English and Spanish fluently and one of these languages could serve as additional support for our work together in case we share it :)

 I am a qualified German/Swiss German teacher with 4 years of online language teaching experience. Based since 1999 in the UK, I have worked in different fields. I started my career as a violinist (Bachelor in Music Pedagogy,Advanced Diploma of Performance) , performing as a freelance musician in orchestras (Switzerland) and as a chamber musician, also teaching and preparing young students for ABRSM Grade Exams in the UK. Then I got into the London film and acting scene and did various supporting gigs in UK Film Studios and sets in London. In 2017 I trained as a Language Teacher in connection with staying in South Korea, which gave me a new perspective in terms of new technologies and online teaching, being geographically independent. I appreciate being able to communicate with students around the world. I have prepared students for Goethe A1 - B2 exams and Swiss Citizenship Exams, lessons are individually tailored to help students reach their language goals, we work with German learning books, online videos and texts, media and literature (Easy Readers). There are less teaching materials for Swiss German, we use Hoi zäme or voCHabular, both Züridütsch materials, or Sali Zäme, Basel dialect. There is also a Bern dialect book or song texts, but it's always a bit of a search and mix and match. If you like a clear structure I suggest you to learn German up to about B1 and then try your luck at Swiss German!;)
